Music and Theatre in Venice

Theatre
Theatre
Venice has always loved theatre. The city itself is like a stage and amidst its scenery first arose theatres such as San Cassiano and San Samuele which now are only recalled in place-names. All that remains now is “La Fenice”, an atmospheric and charming location for which the great masters Verdi and Stravinski both composed operas.
Ospedaletti
Ospedaletti
During the life of the Serene Republic there arose special institutions committed to caring for abandoned children, in which orphans were educated in music and song. A visit to the church of the Pieta, its choirs and museum, is a charming experience. It was here that Antonio Vivaldi taught, while his contemporary Baldassare Galuppi taught at the Ospedaletto where it is possible to visit the Sala della Musica.
Richard Wagner
Richard Wagner
Richard Wagner dearly loved the city, staying here often and indeed dying here. A walk through those places often visited by him, from the Hotel Danieli to his final resting place, via Saint Mark's and the Frari, will permit us to explore his moods and thoughts.
