The statue, that welcomes us as soon as we land on the island, is that of the Abbot Mechitar, who settled there in 1717 with his small religious community.
Since then the island has been the reference point for the conservation of the traditional Armenian culture and especially for the Armenians of the diaspora.
The centre of the island is the library, full of incunabula, manuscripts and more modern texts, the museum with its remains of ancient civilizations, and not only Armenians, like a perfectly preserved Egyptian mummy.
And then the spirituality of the place will enchant you!
